Business Coaching: Building Confidence

Whether you're looking for a promotion or looking to land a better job, business coaching can help you develop more confidence.

Here are some confidence-building techniques used by business coaching professionals.

The A's of Business Leadership

Having confidence in a professional setting requires leadership skills. Business coaches help their clients build more confidence by focusing on these leadership principles.

  • Authentic Authority: Some business professionals mistake authority with bossiness and domination. Authentic authority, however, is leadership built on trust. For instance, when you're considering a business problem, it can be helpful to build trust with your team by collaborating to define the nature of the problem and the possible solutions.  Begin by asking your team to articulate their definition of the problem in a few sentences. Next, schedule a meeting with your team. Begin the meeting by having each member submit their definition of the problem into a hat or bag. Read each team member's submission and encourage your team to discuss their reactions. Lastly, have your team create a shared definition of the problem and work toward creating solutions to the problem with a similar process.
  • Analyze to Adapt: Another issue many business coaches discuss with clients is connecting analysis and adaptation. For instance, many businesses fail when they use data to react, instead of adapting to changes. Although the difference might seem subtle, when you adapt based on the data you analyze, you must be willing to admit that you were wrong and chart a new course. Business leaders who can admit their mistakes are likely to be seen by their colleagues and employees as accountable. Taking this leadership approach allows your team to be more adaptative and responsive.

Process Over Outcome Goals

Although having clear goals is always a good idea, focusing on the achievement, instead of the process to get them, can be counterproductive. Business coaches often work with clients to help them create powerful process goals.

  • Skills: Many employers are looking more at what candidates can do, versus where they went to school or where they worked before. One of the most useful process goals you can set for yourself is the acquisition of a new skill(s) to help you achieve your biggest professional goals. For instance, if you want to earn a management position at an IT firm, but haven't learned the latest coding language(s), you might not ever get your foot in the door at the best firms.

About Me

Creating A Positive Home Environment It's not always easy to detect when you need to make changes in your life, but a few years ago I could tell something was wrong. I began realizing that the people around me weren't always positive about their experiences, and so I started thinking about what I could do to make things better. I started working with others to improve my relationship with them, and it was immediately clear that I was making a difference. I decided to make a website to further my cause, since I think you can be more powerful than you think by improving your own life.
